lpar2rrd MS SQL monitoring: user account type, named instances
Dears,
considering the thread about the SQL server permissions, the new monitoring feature works great unless there are database instances which just permit Windows logins. Looks like authentication with an Active Directory user isn't supported.
Another issue is about named instances. Once there's no default instance, it's required to provide an instance name along with the server name in order to connect to an instance. This seems not to be implemented currently.
One question for both: Do you plan to implement such?
Many thanks,
Elix

More information:
A named instance is usually provided together with the server name like "computername\namedinstancename". Such string can be set as-is in the connection string as value of the Server attribute. So, to allow named instances, it's just required to allow the backslash character in the computer name field.

Hello Elix,
1. This is just an alternative way to connect to the DB right? This is not on the list right now but we might consider it in the future.
2. You should be able to connect to the named instance if you enter "<host/IP>\<namedinstancename>" into the Host input field in web UI like showed in our updated documentation: Microsoft SQL Server Monitoring (lpar2rrd.com)
Note: the connection test won't work, we will post fix into this thread latere
